"Feet are precious" - let's help those who need foot wear. The River of Life Mission, an organization helping homeless on Oahu, in kindness and compassion, provide food and social services everyday. One item needed for the barefoot and sockless are slippers and socks. A basic necessity for the prevention of injury and serious medical conditions such as open wounds, infections and pain is slippers and socks. Let's help the mission help those in need who with the services, can take the road to transitioning to housing, counseling, medical/mental health care and employment. The need - larger size men's slipoper and socks. Bring to a RoCKS meeting or donation thru the club PayPal (note slipper and sock drive). Mahalo! |

Join us for our bi-monthly meeting with an exciting guest speaker! Kimeone Kane, 808CleanUps Kimeona was born and raised in beautiful Waimānalo, Koʻolaupoko, Oʻahu. A true product of the country, he spent most of his childhood working on a dairy farm with his grandmother, Wanda Hooipo Kane. Growing up, Kimeona was exposed to the environment regularly, and spent a lot of time wandering the lush forests of the Koʻolau mountain range, exploring river systems and waterfalls, as well as enjoying the beautiful ocean. Kimeona graduated from The Kamehameha Schools 2004 where he attended since kindergarten. The combination of growing up in a fishing/hunting/gathering Hawaiian family and having the privilege of attending a school for Hawaiian children, Kimeona was immersed in the Hawaiian culture and the importance of sustainability, ʻohana, community and many other much appreciated aspects. Kimeona serves as the Director of Community Outreach for 808 Cleanups, and has been with the organization in various roles since 2014.

This is a clean-up by members(and friends) of our tree well and along Waialae Avenue, trash pick-up and weed removal
Activity: Light gardening of the tree wells and surrounding area.
To Wear: Rotary shirt and/or comfortable clothes for gardening
To Bring: Work gloves.
Safety vests will be provided
Parking: on-street or municipal lot.
Meeting Location: In front of Cow Cow Tea, 3620 Waialae Avenue, near Waialae Avenue and Koko Head Avenue, mauka side.

RC East Honolulu is asking for 4-5 volunteers to help them with the games for children at HUGS Respite Night on Friday, July 11, 2025. There are 2 shifts: 4:00 - 6:30pm or 6:30pm to 9:00pm or the whole event: 4:00pm to 9:00pm. HUGS provides parents and caregivers the opportunity for much needed personal time away from the intense demands of caring for a seriously ill child. Free child care, for children ages 6 months to 12 years, is offered, where they have a lot of fun and attention, paired with a buddy in a safe, supportive environment, so that parents have time for themselves to do whatever they wish.
HUGS Respite @ the HUGS House 3636 Kilauea Avenue, between 12th and Sunset. Park on the street Volunteers arrive at 4:00 and prepare (clean and set up the space, crafts area and outside games for our HUGS children. At 8:30 we clean up and are typically finished by 9:00 pm. Rotary will provide dinner and support to our HUGS children and volunteers (estimated 75 servings.) It is great to have approx. 10-15 general event volunteers who will serve food and create and manage the Crafts and Games. HUGS will also have approx. 25 trained Big Buddy volunteers who are paired with each HUGS child for the evening. Ages of Children is between 2 and 12.
General Public Event Timeline: 5:00 Families arrive – parents drop off their children and meet their Big Buddies Free play 6:00 Get ready for dinner, Movie (Title: Coco and or Encanto) Free play resumes/continues 6:30 Serve Dinner 7:45 Pinata! Join us for our bi-monthly meeting with an exciting guest speaker Gary Permenter from Rotary E-Club who is a Probation Officer with the Hawaiʻi State Judiciary. We will also have our annual Salmon Wes-Day Salmon Breakfast! Wednesday Meeting Location: *Do not park in Domo Cafe lot, you will be towed. Garyʻs Bio: Gary is a collaborator and doer who is passionate about humanitarian service to elevate the welfare of others through charitable contribution or social enterprise development. His humanitarian work experience has mostly been focused on needy infants and children in North Korea to alleviate hunger as well as assisting in aiding severe medical supply deficiencies for disabled youth and maternal mothers. Gary has also led other humanitarian projects in Zimbabwe and Mexico. In addition, Gary has devoted much of his time to community volunteering. As a volunteer, he has helped prepare immigrants from the former eastern block countries for the U.S. job market with resume writing and job interviewing skills. He has also helped gay men who were living with AIDS in the early 1990s with domestic chores or just being present as a companion for them. He has also volunteered in soup kitchens and an LGBTQ community center. Gary is a former Rotaractor and Past President of the Rotaract Club of Chicago. He also served as District Rotaract Representative and District Rotaract Chairperson for Rotary District 6450, and was the Keynote Speaker at the Rotaract Centennial Preconvention. Gary has been a Rotarian now for more than ten years and has served on the board as Secretary for this same period of time. Gary has also served on a Rotary Global Grant Committee for the Save Kids Lives project in China. Gary is currently the ShelberBox Ambassador for Oahu. Gary is also a Toastmaster. Prior to starting a professional career in social work, Gary worked as an educator in different capacities, he also worked in corporate human resources. In Gary’s current position, he is responsible for supervising convicted offenders on probation for sex-related offenses and is the sole gatekeeper for sex offenders who are coming into as well as moving out of the City and County of Honolulu City, State of Hawaii through the Interstate Compact Offender Tracking System. Gary holds a doctorate degree in psychology. He also holds a master of social work degree, and a master degree in human resources management as well as a Certificate for English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA), and a bachelor of arts degree. |

Established in 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death.
