Leslie Lam has been inspired by trees for as long as she can remember.

Whether hiking with her sisters and neighborhood children, or guava picking
with her grandparents and family members, trees were always a source of
fascination, nourishment, protection and play.
Lam formulated Trees Please as a poem while teaching reading to students at
Hauula Elementary School. Her dedication to literacy and the joy of sharing
new tales with interesting characters, gave her the opportunity to witness
discovery and success in young readers. While transforming Trees Please into
a children’s book, Lam focused on building self-confidence in young readers
by using rhythmic repetition, recurring opening sentencing and adding an
interactive question, “If you were a tree… what kind of tree would you be”?
Lam encourages readers of all ages to think about the strength of trees and
their hidden roots. She invites readers to discover the beautiful parallels
between the natural characteristics of trees and humans.
Leslie resides in Hawaii with her loving family and enjoys music, writing, and
reading.
