It is with great sadness to share the passing of our friend and charter club member Bill Green.
Bill Green 94 of Honolulu, Hawaii passed away peacefully at home on August 29, 2021. Bill was born on November 11, 1927 to the late Warren and Ida Green in Camas, Washington.
Bill was the owner of Kahala Shell Auto Care Inc. for the last 30 years, he was always proud to wear his shell uniform.
As a member of the Rotary Club of Kahala Sunrise, Billʻs favorite project was the Dictionary Project and he looked forward to passing out Dictionaries to third graders in our area schools. He brought many smiles to all the lives he touched through Rotary and we will miss him dearly.

Mahalo to Wes Mun for catching and cooking our annual Salmon Breakfast aka Salmon WesDay! It was a treat for all who attended including DG Mark Merriam!

RoCKS held itʻs annual First Books project at Palolo Elementary School on August 25, 2023. Every student in the school, grades K-5 received their very own reading book as part of our education and literacy initiatives. Palolo Elementary is considered a Title 1 school with a large immigrant population, so any extra support to help promote the love of reading goes a long way!
Mahalo to our very own LJ Duenas, Executive Director of the Alzheimerʻs Association Aloha Chapter for sharing updates about newly approved pharmaceutical drugs that will change lives for those who are in the early to moderate stages of Alzheimerʻs.

We also had a visit from Dale Kerns, District Governor Nominee from North East Rotary Club, District 7630.

And we started prepping books for our First Book service project coming up soon with Palolo Elementary School.

And thanks to Jeff Iwashita for running the meeting!

Today has been a tragic day for our Rotarians, families and friends on the Island of Maui. The fires across the island have changed lives forever. Truly devastating. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted.
As people of action, we can take immediate action. As we come together to recover and rebuild, we need to support each other. We need to Create Hope for Maui.
Through our Rotary District 5000 Foundation, a relief fund has been established. Foundation President Dave Hamil and Treasurer Sharon Amano will handle all donations. A committee will be organized shortly to find the greatest needs for distribution of monies. A single fund will be the most helpful over time to provide the most significant benefits.
Please consider donating to this special fund. Hyperlink and QR code are included with this note.
Stay safe, take care and mahalo for creating hope.
Mark Merriam
